KLG Rutland are privileged to be able to support the annual ‘Best in Broxtowe Awards’, hosted by Broxtowe Borough Council and the Nottingham Post and held this year at The Walled Garden, Beeston Fields in early May.
We sponsor the ‘Local Hero’ award, which produced three amazing finalists. And – In front of over 200 guests – our Marketing Director Terry Hill was delighted to acclaim Kimberley scouting stalwart Dawson Saxton the eventual winner in ‘this selfless and noble category’.
Presenting the award to Mr. Saxton, Terry heard how, together with his wife Jennifer, the redoubtable 66-year-old has supported scouting and activities for young people and adults for more than 40 years – even through periods of ill health and family tragedy. And how – even after retiring from the Police Force – Dawson is still active as a group scout leader at Eastwood and a parent governor at The Kimberley School.
On accepting the award Mr Saxton, who was also voted ‘Pride of the Borough’ by the judging panel, said:
“It’s unbelievable to think that somebody would consider me a local hero – let alone the pride of the borough. I do it for the enjoyment; it gives kids who wouldn’t normally get the chance to do that sort of thing great opportunities.”
Commenting on KLG Rutland’s involvement with the awards, a smiling Terry Hill said afterwards:
“It’s a real honour for KLGR to be a Best in Broxtowe sponsor. And ironically it sort of puts the boot on the other foot by offering us an amazing window… onto the finer qualities of our local community!”
